New security system for schools and colleges attracts attention

Library security company, D-Tech, has installed its new RFIQ technology in the upgraded library at the Dame Elizabeth Cadbury College, in Bournville, Birmingham.  RFIQ has been developed by D-Tech, specifically for schools, as an entry level version to RFID technology which is increasingly used in larger Academic and Public libraries, to provide security, stock management and self service functions.

The Dame Elizabeth Cadbury College is currently undergoing a  library upgrade which means altering the way the library works and keeping options open to extend the library in the future. Implementing RFIQ means that the technology can later be upgraded to RFID,  future proofing the scope of the library offer.

The new security is designed along the principles of RFID,  offering improved detection levels over those provided by traditional EM security systems.  But it's the ability for a school to seamlessly upgrade at a later date, to full blown RFID, that is proving to be key in attracting orders from school librarians.

Niall Mullen IT & Facilities Manager, Dame Elizabeth Cadbury School,  adds:  "D-Tech came to us with RFIQ and I was very impressed by the technology.  I had heard of RFID and I liked the idea that RFIQ was upgradeable to RFID in the future.  The fact that the actual price point wasn't that different to EM meant that we would be getting something potentially better for not much more cost and that was very attractive.  I suppose you could say that RFIQ is extensible - that's the word!"

Bob Bellamy, Education Business Development Manager, D-Tech adds:  "Schools change, Colleges change, libraries change - why not develop a library security technology  that stays in step  with these changes?  RFIQ is the technology that future proofs the school or college library - it's simple, it's successful and it's sustainable."

Niall Mullen sums up:  "It (RFIQ) was just much simpler - less PHAFF!"

Marvin Crisp, Managing Director, D-Tech adds: "RFIQ gives schools improved performance (better detection levels and discovery range, electronic issue and returns, excellent integration with LMS systems) PLUS the opportunity to upgrade to full RFID at a later stage.  All this with only a low cost differential from traditional systems.  RFIQ means that you can literally upgrade your school library security as your school grows and, of course, you have access to all the benefits that RFID brings".
