Our new ‘Air’™ self service with multi touch screen means you have everything you need at your fingertips. A new concept in self service, the modern styling and air flow between the unit attracted so much attention at the recent RFID conference, that we couldn’t keep it under wraps any longer.

The screen read software reads NFC phones and RFID labels and eveything is accommodated within the slimline screen. The standard 26″ screen, (can be 42″ DDA compliant) with sound and video, responds instantly and lets you access information quickly. Receipts can be sent by email or SMS.

If that’s not enough ‘AIR’™ extends service delivery to include payment of council services e.g. taxes, rent and many others.

A truly versatile, innovation that will integrate into and can be designed around existing furnishings. It’s so new that we would be happy to tell you about more about it.

The newly refurbished Blackpool Central Library opted for our, barcode only enabled self service which they can upgrade to RFID at a later date. While RFID can offer more operational benefits, it is not the only solution if a library is looking for a cost effective, self service option without the added security or stock management features of RFID. Give us a call and let us help you decide which technology would best suits your needs.

Our stylish, blue for Blackpool, ECO self service units come with payment options and we also installed our thermal imaging people counters.

D-Tech has launched their new ‘Air’ self service with ScreenRead technology, a new concept with a groundbreaking design and multi touch screen users have everything they need at their fingertips. Air was launched at this year’s RFID Conference and feedback from delegates and other exhibitors indicated that this was a design innovation that was going to change the RFID self service landscape.

The innovation lies in being able to use the touch screen for reading labels as well as giving the user instructions. It will also work with Mifare, RFID user cards and NFC phones so users will be able to log into their user accounts with their mobiles.

Unlike the bulkier self service kiosk that we have all become used to Air has no large housings holding PCs, printers, RFID reader or plates to place books or items on. It all happens on the touchscreen .

The screen is available from 26” up to 42” and because everything is included within the touch screen Air can either stand alone or is easily integrated into library furniture. This gives library designers more options when it comes to space planning and flow around the self service units.

The stand alone Air unit is DDA compliant with sound on buttons for visually impaired users and video to help with instructions on the display. Auto user detection reads the user’s card details; this means when someone registers they can use add a field that defines their needs and when the card (manual or via a mobile) is read at the kiosk adjustments are made accordingly.

Using a mobile is easy – it only needs to be placed on the touch screen and it will read the library card/users log in information just as you would with a library card. Receipts can be emailed or sent by SMS with details picked up via the SIP2 communication from the LMS account.

The system also offers a multi-function service which is becoming increasingly important where libraries are more frequently sharing locations with other Council services. By adding a multi function screen to the front display the user can then select different options so that if they want to pay e.g. council tax, they will be directed to the Council website.

Marvin Crisp, managing director D-Tech explains: “This has been a while in its embryonic stage but we wanted to make sure that such a revolutionary product was absolutely right and ready for launch. Without going into all the technicalities Air is a sea change more than a step change in self service delivery. D-Tech has always had a reputation for bringing new ideas to the table and judging by the reaction that we received at the RFID conference Air lives up to that reputation”.

Air is so new that we haven’t managed to get all the information up on the website. So if you are interested in learning more please contact us on 01394 420077 or e: info@d-techdirect.com

Self service terminals are to be installed at Walsall’s seven main libraries in a move which will free up staff to spend more time with customers.

Terminals allowing people to check their own books in and out are being placed in Walsall Central Library, Aldridge, Bloxwich, Brownhills, Darlaston, Willenhall and the new Pelsall Library which is currently under construction.

The equipment is only being installed in the borough’s most heavily used libraries as it is not cost effective to install it in every single building.

D-Tech International Ltd has been awarded the contract to install 17 self service terminals as part of the £232,800 Radio Frequency Identification Systems(RFID) project funded through the council’s capital programme.

The first self service terminal is set to be up and running in Walsall Central Library this winter with the others to follow in the months afterwards.

Tags are currently being placed on 200,000 books ahead of the installation of the terminals.

Together with issuing and discharging books the scanners will be able to check out other items available for hire and take payments. Customers will receive a receipt detailing any payments they have made and the return date.

There will be simple on screen instructions for users to follow and staff will also be on hand to offer assistance.

Councillor Anthony Harris, Walsall Council cabinet member for leisure and culture, said: “We are always looking at ways of making the service we offer to our customers better and more efficient.

“It is important to stress this is not about replacing staff with self service technology but about listening to our customers and freeing up staff to assist library users with their enquiries and run courses/groups.”

"We are delighted to have been chosen to work with Walsall Council on

the installation of RFID and self service at seven libraries across the

region. RFID is a transforming technology which will deliver new and

exciting library services for the residents of Walsall". Marvin Crisp,

managing director, D-Tech

The ECO self service unit is proving to be a best seller for D-Tech with its strong, minimalist impression, environmental credentials and easy maintenance. Moving away from stainless steel, ECO is now available in a bespoke colour spectrum to suit any library interior. In this instance the white ECO has been chosen to compliment Woolwich Library’s new interior and to create an understated, up to the minute library space in the very modern, green and efficient Woolwich Centre.

The project included D-Tech’s stylish plexiglass, colour changing antennas and thermal imaging people counters.
